The last clue for the little QAL hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts came out last Wednesday. We were to add triangles around the outside edge, like this.
This is what it would have looked like. I wanted Abe to not lean quite so much, so I decided to add enough triangles to boost him upright.
I cut into this long hoarded layer cake….
…to make corners like this.
I used this die from Accuquilt to cut my triangles.
So this is where I’m at now. It doesn’t feel finished, but my goal is to get it done by Friday.
I think Lori felt bad that some people would have their centers a bit off kilter as mine was. I think it is a good thing. While my quilt has veered off from the quilt along plan, I’m making something I love. And I never would have made this had I not joined in the QAL. It feels like one of those alternate ending deals. I’m not the only one that went down a bit of a different path. You will get to see the others when Lori posts the linky party on Friday.
Have a great day!

I love what you have so far!!
Yep, you nailed it! Really, really nice improvement to the block. Isn’t it good that we can make things to suit ourselves!
So glad Abe is upright again. Love the addition of the half square triangles — they are perfect.
I love, love, love the vintage feel of this project. 🙂 Perfect use for your carefully hoarded layer cake!
I like how you squared up your Abe. My Abe when through a makeover, but I believe I like yours better!
The shirting HSTs are the perfect solution for Honest Abe. I look forward to the completed project.
Great solution to the on point setting
Great save for the tilting Abe! Your quilt looks lovely!
I really like your solution of turning an on point design…on point!
Yes, he certainly does look better standing tall. You came up with a great solution to Abe’s slouch.
The direction you took this is definitely right for your quilt. The outcome should be very pleasing.
I love how you took this and changed it to make Mr. honesty Stnd up straight..beautiful work hugs, Julierose
