Recently, Jayne from Twiggy and Opal , asked for pattern testers for a new block pattern she had created, Star Thistle. I love Jayne’s work so I quickly raised my hand to try it out!
Her pattern was very well written and easy to understand. Here are the fabric and pattern pieces I started with.
I made the little pieces for the middle first.
I like the way she blunted the tips of the pattern pieces. This makes it easier to line up with the other paper pieced bits.
Here is one quarter of the block.

And the back side.
And here is the completed block!
Pretty cool, huh? I think there could be some awesome secondary designs if you made more blocks. I decided to add 2 1/2 inch strips to the sides, quilt it and make a pillow.

My center could use a bit of work, but I love how it turned out!
If you would like to make one or more of these blocks, you can get the pattern for FREE in Jayne’s Craftsy Store.
Have a great day!

This is a great pattern. I love the colours you choose. It’s a great pillow.
It is so stunning! Has a very beautiful WOW factor. I wouldn’t do a quilt with such a pattern but a pillow would be doable. Congrats. It’s awesome! ;^)
Katy, it is beautiful, and I would love to make a pillow out of this block someday. Take care, Mary.
Stunning design! How do people come up with these??
Very striking
yes I would do that pattern. Another great job.
The design is very striking; I really like it! How fun to be able to test this pattern. Of course, your finish is really nice, as usual!
Great pattern and great job !
This pattern/block is quite lovely! The pattern test is a success!
