Design Wall Monday

Thank you for all your comments on my problem child quilt. I am ready to put this one behind me! I am just struggling now with giving away a quilt I am not happy with. If I step back, it is okay. Up close, I see lots of flaws!

On to other things, I finally started working on my July Small Quilt Challenge for the SQT group.

These blocks will finish at 3 inches. The original challenge pattern had 12 blocks but I am stopping at 6. I am using vintage fabrics for this. I hope to get the top done today.

I have another project on the table today.

This fabric is actually from an IKEA duvet cover. I am making curtains out of it for my daughter’s basement.

Linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for DWMonday.

  1. It is hard to be happy or content with a quilt you had a lot of trouble with, but it is truly beautiful. No one will even see the flaws you know are there – they will see a beautiful quilt with a very pretty design and lovely colours – not to mention the gorgeous quilting. To give something away that you are not happy with is even harder but allow the perfectionist in you to step aside and give someone a very pretty quilt at a time when they need some comfort – you suggested the Women’s shelter if I recall. Do it.
I am mad about pinwheels at the moment and so I love the new little quilt you are working on and the fabrics and colours. Hope you have some fun with that.

  2. Kathy had some very good pointers. I am amazed at how bad I think my long arm quilting is when I take a quilt off the frame. And yet, when I look at it months or years later I think it looks pretty good. We are our own worst enemies. Good for you for working on the small quilt. It should be a satisfying, easy finish.

I understand your feelings but I always have to remember that I want people to use the quilts I make and eventually they will wear out while being loved so the flaws will not matter at all.

  4. Kathy says:

I have to remind myself that I’ve seen the imperfections in my quilts up close and personal … and because I made/stitched the quilt, I know where every single one is. I remind myself that the recipient isn’t going to sit and pore over that quilt, up close and personal, looking for flaws … and will likely never find them. Praying that you will have piece with whatever you decide to do with that quilt.

I love those little pinwheels. Great fabric, too.
