Slow Stitching Sunday

I have been preparing more pumpkin seed blocks to hand appliqué while on the road. I have 5 done so far.

This is how I prepare my applique. First I cut my pattern out of freezer paper and iron it to the back of my fabric. Then I cut the extra fabric away leaving about a 1/4″ seam allowance to turn under as I go.

Next I finger press the background square in half.

I place the appliqué on top, peeking under the ends to see that the pattern is centered on the line and use a few swipes of glue to hold it in place.

I need to cut a few more background squares and my kit will be ready to go.

For travel, I like to use these Iris scrap booking cases from Joann’s. They are often on sale for half off and yesterday I got an extra 10% off making them $4.50 each. They are pretty big and shallow so they make a nice work surface on my lap in the car.

We had a lovely time with family while Daughter #2 was home last week.

Oh pumpkin seeds…..I love them. It is amazing to me of the three people that I know have made them (me, Kathy and you) we all prep and make them completely differently! I think once I ever get mine together into a top I might just have to start another pumpkin seed project next year. It is just so addicting.

I like you kit idea. I am always bring bags of crocheting or knitting in the car. I am not sure I could sew in the car. I know I can’t cross-stitch. I love your pumpkin seed blocks. I am looking forward to seeing them completed.

  4. This is a perfect project for travelling. I like to do binding in the car–keeps me awake!

Lovely pumpkin seeds. But I have a question; where do you put the glue? On the freezer paper? How do you remove it after? I’m sorry if I sound thick and slow but I seriously don’t get it. Thanks for sharing. And you have such a sweet little babe. Adorable.

  14. I wish I could do handwork in the car, but it makes me so sick! Your scrapbooking container looks perfect for staying organized. Thanks for sharing and I am visiting from Slow Sunday Stitching.
