Slow Stitching Sunday

I finished the quilting on my Woven Stars project for FQS. I made lots of binding so I could use some for another project.

I’m glad to have my Bernina handy for binding again.

I hope to finish the hand stitching today. I had to share a photo of this corner. How often does that happen?

Have a great day!

A Few of my Favorite Things!

Last week I got up early with the pups and was rewarded with these beautiful skies!

I will never tire of a cactus bloom, especially when it is in my front yard!

The mister and I went to our favorite German restaurant recently. It was even better than I remembered.

I finished another puzzle! White Mountain puzzles are my favorite.

While in Central Phoenix, we stopped at my favorite fabric store.

This is what came home with me. Most will be used for backings.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Improv Log Cabin

My improv log cabin is done.

I had intended to quilt a random grid, but ended up deciding to just add a few grids here and there.

A facing seemed like a more appealing finish than a binding for this piece,

It finished at about 37 inches square.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday ~ Hexies

We are traveling today, so here is a finish from five years ago. Enjoy!

I started piecing the first flower for this on my way to Iceland last April.

I quilted this on the long arm using a light gray thread.

I’m so pleased with the background choice!

I’ve had the backing fabric in my stash for a long time.

A while back I made a bunch of this binding as I knew it would work for so many quilts. It was perfect for this one.

Willy gave it his sniff of approval.

Now I just have to decide where to hang it. Have a great day

What should I work on next?

As a break from the deadline projects, I started poking around my project bins to think about what I should focus my attention on next.

I made a few of these last spring.

And I never decided on a plan for these.

I totally forgot about these tumblers.

This box is leftover solid scraps from my sewing room in Michigan.

I’m thinking about cutting these into squares to make another quilt like this one.

Hmmm…..I have quite a few more things laying around as well.

Have a great day!

Fence Rail Progress

I’ve been madly sewing over here, but I haven’t much I can show you. I have three deadline projects at the moment. I have worked a little bit on this.

I have a whole four blocks done! Mostly as leaders/enders.

No idea how big this will get, but I’ll keep plugging along.

Have a great day!

Learning New Things

I found the most perfect backing for this quilt! However, by the time I pieced it to fit, I had only about an inch extra on each side, not enough for long arming.

So I learned something new. I’ve seen long arm quilters baste the whole top before quilting, but I had never done it myself.

I knew doing this would allow me to see if I could actually quilt this entire top with my skimpy batting. I learned by watching this video by Tia Curtis.

And it worked! You can see above how little extra I had to work with.

Time to quilt! Have a great day!

Heard Museum ~ Baskets

I have a thing for baskets. I love all kinds of baskets. But there is nothing quite like these.

The patterns and workmanship are truly amazing.

They tell stories.

I cannot imagine how long it must have taken to make one of these. I wish I could have shown you the detail; it just wasn’t possible through the glass.

These next three were huge!

Have a great day!

The Heard Museum Part 1

Mr. Wonderful and I ticked an item off my bucket list last week with a visit to the Heard Museum in Phoenix. It is a museum of Native American Art and History. The building itself was gorgeous.

I took so many pictures! Today, I’m sharing some of the woven rugs on display.

The following photos are of rugs that were for sale in the museum shop. They were all out of my price range!

The pieces hanging on this wall are all vintage.

I love the one I own. I purchased it at a moving sale. The gentleman I bought it from had purchased it many years ago with his wife who had been an art dealer.

I learned a lot today, but I also learned that I don’t know much.

I will share more in future posts. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Four Patch

This four patch quilt was the first quilt using a pantograph on the new machine.

I don’t know if you can tell, but I used blue thread on the top and white on the back.

This is the pantograph I used.

I really like how it turned out.

Have a great day!
