This and That

Mr. Wonderful surprised me with these new tree ornaments! The one on the left is a Harley VRod like his. The one on the right is a Harley 48 just like mine.

Oh, Silly Willy!

I bought a panel like this when my kids were little and I first started sewing. Every year before opening gifts, my son would use this set to tell the Christmas story. He often got creative. One year he talked about Mary and Joseph meeting on a dating site. 🙄

I gave that set to him when his boys were tiny. Then I found another panel and made one for Daughter #1 to use with her boys. I found a couple more at Goodwill one year and tucked them away. Daughter #2 found them in my stash and wants hers now. I guess I need to get sewing!

Speaking of Daughter #2, we made this apron together recently. As I mentioned, she went digging in my stash and found this fabric and off we went!

And lastly, I finally finished this puzzle!

This might have been the hardest puzzle I’ve ever done.

Lastly, I was asked how I choose a color for the “background “ of a scrappy quilt like the one I showed yesterday.

There isn’t any real magic. I usually pick a solid that I have on hand that I think goes with the prints. In this case, I think yellow, lavender, pink, green, nearly anything would work!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ 30s Scrappy Rectangles

It’s done!

I love scrappy quilts! This was made with all reproduction 1930s prints.

The pantograph I used for quilting is called Yarn Tangle. Each rectangle was cut 2 by 3 1/2 inches and the quilt measures 60 by 72 inches.

This last picture probably shows the truest color. I had a tough time getting good photos of this one.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

Here is another Christmas quilt, finished in 2017. Enjoy!

Christmas Hexies

I finished the Christmas quilt for Daughter #1 a while back, but decided to wait to share it until closer to Christmas.

The big pieces made for a pretty quick finish. I’m glad as I wanted her to use it before the holiday itself. I used a panto from Urban Elementz called Malachite.

I bought all the fabrics from my local JoAnn’s. I love this backing fabric.

I finished the binding completely by machine this time.

Oops….I see a thread on that picture up there! I gave this to her Thanksgiving weekend so they could enjoy using it before Christmas.

Big E gave it his approval!

Have a great day!

Progress

After a big push, this top is in the frame. I took an informal poll on Instagram and as a result of that, this is the pantograph that I settled on.

So far, so good.

My drunkards path blocks are coming along as well.

Little by little, things get done. Though I will say, having a retired partner makes sewing time a bit harder to find!

Have a great day!

Hand Quilting

I’ve been in the mood for a hand quilting project. I pulled these two tops out of the stash for consideration.

This one reminds me of peppermint candy. I think it would made a fun Christmas quilt. It needs a few repairs, but very doable. I was thinking about using pink thread, possibly perle cotton, and big Baptist fans.

I’d forgotten I had this next one.

It needs a few repairs as well, but less than I remembered.

The hand piecing is lovely.

Hmmmm…. I think due to the season, I’m leaning toward the first one. I need to think about it some more.

Have a great day!

Fence Rail

I’m still working on this here and there.

After making 20 blocks, I decided it was time to stop and take stock. This pile shows all the bits I had left.

I decided I needed 10 more blocks to make a good size lap quilt. Thankfully, I had more of this blue solid. I got cutting and now I’m ready to sew some more.

Have a great day!

Phoenix Art Museum

The mister and I scored free tickets to the art museum. It was fantastic! Here are a few that caught my eye. Artist info is below each photo.

I’ll share more in future posts.

Have a great day!

This and That

Mister Wonderful makes the most amazing cinnamon rolls! He learned from the best, his mom. 😊

We stopped by to see Daughter #2 aT work. Isn’t she beautiful?

I saw this at Goodwill. I was tempted to buy it and fix it up, but I left it for someone else.

However, this DID come home with me!

This is so true!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Diamonds

I cut these pieces out over a year ago. I pieced the top last summer in the RV, and just quilted and bound it this week!

I had a tough time getting the colors to show true. The solid fabric is new (don’t remember what brand/color name). The prints are all vintage.

I had this vintage pink in my stash for the binding.

And I found the vintage fabric on the back at Goodwill.

My neighbor has lovely bougainvillea that I get to enjoy over the fence!

This little quilt finished at about 38 by 50 inches.

My continuous curve quilting needs work. I ended up using a small curved ruler and it took forever.

Now it will hang around in the spare bedroom until I find a home for it.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

December is a busy month. So I’ve decided to share a favorite Christmas quilt each Thursday this month. This post dates back to September of 2021. Enjoy!

The Christmas Quilt

If this quilt doesn’t scream Christmas, I don’t know what does! my dear friend, Zenia, gave me this beautiful vintage top. I couldn’t wait to hand quilt it!

The material was quite thin and required a few repairs. It quilted up so nice! I used #5 pearl cotton in a sage green to quilt it.

I used Quilter’s Dream Cotton Request for batting. i was asked if I tested these fabrics for bleeding before I started working on it. I did not. Whether it bled or not, the cried out to be finished. I washed it when it was finished and it didn’t run at all.

It is every bit as soft and cozy as it looks.

I used plain, unbleached muslin one the back.

I came as close as I could to matching the red for the binding. It works well enough.

I love the back!

I so love finishing these old tops! A huge thanks to Zenia for her most generous gift.

Have a great weekend
