Parallelogram Progress

I’m second guessing myself here. I thought I would love this. Turns out, I don’t.

I wish I would have done this. But it’s too late now. I don’t want columns with a bunch of seams. I guess that’s an idea for another quilt.

But I’m ready to start sewing blocks together anyway.

Have a great day!

Vintage Gingham

It only took an afternoon to get this small top pieced. Why did I wait so long?

I considered hand quilting this, then my sanity returned. I’m using these design boards with an Orange Peel design.

The blocks are quite dirty. I can’t wait to finish this so I can wash it!

I’ve caught an ugly respiratory bug, so I’m working in fits and spurts. Hopefully this will be done soon.

Have a great day!

Diamonds? Parallelograms?

I have just four fat quarters of this beautiful floral fabric. It goes well with these double pinks and blues.

I remembered a quilt on my bucket list and decided this might be just the ticket. These are the AccuQuilt dies I’m using. They are from the 9” Qube.

When using the parallelogram dies, you have to be conscious of direction. For these blocks, I want my cut pieces to end up like this:

Not like this!

Here is the block. To do this, I placed all my pieces face down on the die.

I think I’m going to like this.

Have a great day!

So long ago….

I made this quilt for my sweet Mother in Love many years ago. it was based on a Judy Martin pattern.

All these years later, she still uses it! This next photo shows the colors best.

I also made the little pillow and pieced the patchwork in the frame.

Sorry for the glare.

Have a great day!

This and That

Isn’t it fun to visit someone and see a quilt you made in use?

Daughter #2 groomed Winslow and Willy. She does the best job.

We recently flew to Kansas City. I found the fields with terracing fascinating. You can really see the texture with the snow.

The mister and I help out with cleaning at church one day a week. I love this view of the mountains from the campus.

Another puzzle!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Red/Cheddar 9 Patch

It’s done! And I love it!

I love the look of grid quilting, but it isn’t the easiest thing to do on the long arm. You quilt all the lines in one direction, remove the quilt from the frame, then turn it 90 degrees, and reload it. Then quilt it all again. It’s hard to get it reloaded exactly square.

So it is far from perfect, but I do love that texture.

It goes nicely with my String Theory quilt (pattern for that by Sharon Tucker of Grassroots Quilt Studio).

I’m so glad I went with the cheddar instead of the “safer” choice of tan.

I think it just sings!

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

It’s hard to believe this post was first published nine years ago! I hope you enjoy taking a look back at some quilts I finished in 2015. Have a great day!

Small/Throw Quilts

Posted on January 23, 2016 by katyquilts

During January, I am showing groups of quilts that I finished last year. This is mainly for my own benefit as it is a record of the quilts I have made without having to wade through a year’s worth of blog posts.

Here are all the quilts that I classify as larger wall quilts or throw quilts that I completed in 2015.

Vintage Blocks

I’ve had these vintage blocks for ages. I think it’s about time I used them.

They are around 10 inches square. They are definitely not exact! I found a vintage blue gingham to pair with them.

Here is one layout option.

I’ll have to think about it.

Have a great day!

9 Patch

I decided to move ahead with this and then realized that I don’t have enough cheddar .

Then I had a really crazy idea, I can make a small quilt and save the leftover 9 patches for something else! Duh! I think I have enough to make a layout like this.

I’m still not sure if this is a great idea, but it’s only fabric. Right?

Have a great day!

Something Old, Something New

I saw the following quilt on Instagram and loved it. Then I remembered that I had 9 patches that I made last summer!

I didn’t have a solid tan that I liked, so I grabbed a chunk of cheddar. This is the die I used.

I decided to just make enough HSTs to try this out.

I either love this or hate it. I can’t make up my mind. The sashing really shouts!

I thought about just making a broken dishes mini quilt instead.

Hmmm….

Have a great day!
