Quilts Beyond Borders

Just a quick post here…I see that an online friend, Deb, and I have quilts featured on the Quilts Beyond Borders blog. I found out that this last batch that I quilted for them will be headed to Syria. You can read the post and learn more about Quilts Beyond Borders here.

You can find Deb’s blog here. Her blog has a WEALTH of information on long arm quilting. I have learned SO much from Deb. Her quilts are lovely and she is one of the most helpful people I have “met” online!

And because no blog can be posted without pictures, here are a few from my QBB files.

Weekend Edition

I am really bad at coming up with blog titles! Today is the first Saturday in a long time that I have not had to work. It feels good! This is what I worked last night.
First I finished the last border for the QAL Lori is hosting at Humble Quilts.

I got a little further on my hat for a sailor.

20131019-102543.jpg
I finished the last two QOV blocks for this set.

20131019-102620.jpg
And I got EQ7 loaded and spent some time playing with that and watching tutorials. Here is a quick shot if a quilt designed with paper foundation pieced blocks that are preloaded into the program.

This morning, wonderful hubby made me breakfast.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hobby Quilter Pics

This post will not interest most of you. I have a few people that are interested in buying this machine and have asked for more pictures. I thought it would be easier to post the pics here than to e-mail them all.

Friday!

What a busy week! I have made progress on my QOV blocks. I am up to 18 now and I really like them.

20131018-121738.jpg
One of my biggest concerns with getting a die cutter was the waste of fabric. Here is the wast from cutting a bunch of triangles.

20131018-121855.jpg
Yeah, I can live with that. Especially since it improves accuracy so much.

Here is my little sewing friend and her finished tote at. She did a great job!

20131018-122016.jpg
My wonderful hubby not only set me up with a new computer this week, he also ordered this for me!

20131018-122116.jpg
Yep, I know, I am totally spoiled!

No time to play with it yet but I will this weekend! And lastly my hat for a sailor is making slow progress as well.

Now, I am off to work! Happy Friday everyone!

Needle and Thread Thursday

Only time for a quick post as I have a very busy day ahead. Here are some QOV blocks I have been working on.

20131017-084213.jpg
They are 10″ finished and all bits are cut with my studio cutter. I love that thing!

20131017-084303.jpg
I was accumulating quite a pile of red, white, and blue scraps and thought this looked like a great scrap pattern. I will make 20 blocks and sash them with a navy solid.
I hope to get these hand sewn to a couple finished QOVs today also.

20131017-084502.jpg
I work this morning, have my sewing time with my young friend this afternoon, and Life group for church tonight.

Time to get moving!

BTW, I am linking up with Kelly for Needle and Thread Thursday. Check out what others are working on.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Well, I decided to trim the borders rather than rip. I would have preferred a bit more separation but I am very happy with the way my triangle pattern worked out at the corners.

20131016-081800.jpg
One if the reasons I didn’t follow Lori’s plan exactly is that I am always trying to use up leftover bits and/or use dies that I have for my studio cutter. I didn’t have HSTs that measured 1 1/4″ finished, so mine are 1 1/2″ finished. I am never a slave to a pattern, I use what works for me. Now I still have all these left:

20131016-082055.jpg
I cut some bits for some scrappy QOV blocks. When I sat down to sew, I realized I had more cutting to do!

20131016-082302.jpg
Oops!

I have one more major WIP to share with all of you but it must remain a secret for just a little while longer. Keeping a secret is so hard….

Terrific Tuesday!

Will it be terrific? I plan to make it sew! LOL

Not much progress sewing yesterday. Remember when I said I wasn’t EXACTLY following the instructions Lori gave for the QAL? Yeah, well that can come back and bite you.

20131015-074834.jpg
I could either trim the border so it fit 6 HSTs along one aide or rip them off and add larger ones. Think I am going to rip but this indecision coupled with a few other things kept me from moving ahead with this. I do have all the HSTs sewn.
In other news, Daughter #2 left new dog in the crate yesterday for her first day back to work. A friend checked on her a couple hours later and found this:

20131015-075208.jpg
One $70 crate destroyed in under 3 hours! Yikes! I spent some time researching other options for her. Here’s hoping this one works out better.

Also happening in the sewing room:

20131015-075605.jpg
DH has been working away setting me up with a new computer. He is hardwiring internet. Now I can do this:

And this:

20131015-075740.jpg
That is my Singer Futura embroidery machine. He is upgrading the software on that for me too. He even got me this cool mouse:

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! I am linking up with Connie for Free Morion By the River Linky Tuesday.

Design Wall Monday

I am participating in the QAL over at Humble Quilts. Lori posted the next installment of instructions but I didn’t get very far.

20131014-083115.jpg
I added the last border and now need to add another border of HSTs. I do have them cut.

20131014-083211.jpg
My dog bandanas were a big hit with Daughter #1’s dog.

20131014-083309.jpg
Daughter #2’s dog will get hers later this week.

20131014-083355.jpg
Dear SIL had a softball tournament this weekend.

20131014-083440.jpg

20131014-083455.jpg
He hit a couple home runs but they took second on the tournament.
I did get some knitting done while watching the Tigers play.

20131014-083601.jpg
I must be the world’s slowest knitter!
Hubby is home today. Still recovering from his big trip.

Saturday

It was such a beautiful day yesterday! And so nice to haven’t hubby home😀.

I started cutting scraps for QOV blocks.

20131013-081744.jpg
But didn’t get very far before work because I spent most of my time chatting with my love and Daughter #3. Last night DH and I did a bit of shopping and stopped at JoAnns. I picked up fabric to make these for the grand dogs.

20131013-082007.jpg
The ones on the right have a sleeve to pull the color through. They are for Daughter #2’s new dog. I will ship them to AZ this week. The others are for Daughter #1’s lab. She wanted some that tie. Dear SIL should like these!
I finished off the evening watching BBC’s Sherlock Holmes on my Kindle and knitting. I am a terribly slow knitter!

Have you seen the website, Awkward Family Photos? It is hilarious! I recommend that you do not drink anything while looking at this site. It could prove hazardous to your keyboard. Anyway, it is Awkward Family Photo day at my church. Everyone is to come dressed and there will be a group photo. How fun is that? You can find out more here.

Really Random Friday

Dear hubby is home at last! His schedule is messed up but that happens when you fly to the other side of the world. He brought me back a lovely jewelry box. I will post a pic tomorrow.

My sewing time went well with my little friend yesterday. She is making great progress and we should be able to finished her tote next week.

20131011-221541.jpg

Two of my dear daughters have gotten dogs just in the last week. Here is Daughter #1 with her new dog.

20131011-221806.jpg
And here is Daughter #2’s new dog.

While we are at it, here is Lucy, Daughter #3’s dog.

20131011-222046.jpg
Yep, she’s a weird one. And this is the one that started the whole mess, Pierre. He is left at home with me.

20131011-222222.jpg

20131011-222240.jpg
He is 11 and showing his age a bit.

Today I received another great squishy package in the mail.

20131011-222532.jpg
My blocks from the SQT swap! Woohoo!!

20131011-222611.jpg
They are all so beautiful! I can’t wait to make a quilt for myself out of them.

One more random picture:

20131011-222725.jpg
I took this picture in our backyard. I think these colors would make an awesome quilt!

I think that is it for Really Random Friday. Have a good weekend!
