Small Quilt Parade Day 5

I’ll be on the road early tomorrow morning so I decided to post this a wee bit early.20131103-202624.jpg20131103-202647.jpg
The little quilt above is the first mini I ever made. The blocks are paper pieced.20131103-202751.jpg20131103-202807.jpg

Small Quilt Parade Day 4

Here are the quilts for day 4!

20131103-063733.jpg
Made with vintage fabrics.

20131103-063811.jpg
Repro civil war fabrics.

20131103-063850.jpg
Vintage fabrics.

20131103-064005.jpg
The squares in this are vintage.

20131103-064100.jpg
Again, these hexagons are 3/4″.

20131103-064216.jpg
I paper pieced these blocks on freezer paper. It was not such a good idea. It was very hard to remove the paper.

20131103-064454.jpg
The little bits in the braid are about 1/4″ wide. This quilt was published in a magazine but I can’t remember now which one.
Hope you enjoyed Day 4 of the parade! Come back tomorrow for the last day of my small quilt parade.

Happy Sunday!

Small Quilt Day Parade Day 3

We are having a great time with family! Here are the small quilts for today.

20131102-072338.jpg
These are Repro 30s fabrics.

20131102-072453.jpg
This one again has half inch high flying geese.

20131102-072554.jpg
The background fabric is new but the colored fabrics in the churn dash are vintage. The blocks are 3″.

20131102-072728.jpg
Another one with vintage fabrics.

20131102-072830.jpg
Hand pieced stars and vintage 30s-40s fabrics.

20131102-073015.jpg
Repro indigos, claret a, and shirtings, 3/4″ hexies.

20131102-073135.jpg
Again vintage fabrics from the stash.

Hope you enjoyed the small quilts today. Come back tomorrow for Day 4!

Small Quilt Parade Day 2

We we made it halfway through lots if rain and fog. We were very happy to stop for the night. I got some hand stitching done but will share that tomorrow. Here are the quilts for today.

20131101-062828.jpg
This first one was made with vintage 30s fabrics.

20131101-062924.jpg
This little one measures about 5″ x 6″ and was a little machine quilting experiment.

20131101-063032.jpg
I think the squares in this one are about 1 1/2″ finished. Again, vintage fabrics except for the border.

20131101-063153.jpg
This shows bits from my very tiny Liberty of London stash. I purchased the fabrics in a shop in Paris. They were cheaper than the Liberty store in London!

20131101-063341.jpg
This one measures about 7″ x 8″ and is all vintage fabrics.

20131101-063443.jpg
Repro 30s fabrics. Four patches are one inch. Quilted with lavender thread.

20131101-063551.jpg
This is one of my very first small quilts. The flying geese are a half inch high. I paper pieced this mini.

Hope you enjoyed day 2!

On the road again 😊.

Small Quilt Parade Day 1

I will do more traveling than quilting this weekend as I head to Wisconsin to visit my parents. I thought it might be fun to pull out some of my small quilts to share with you while I am gone. I will post several everyday through Monday. Enjoy!

20131031-075556.jpg
The pieces in the quilt above are 1/2″!

20131031-075637.jpg
The HSTs in this tree of life quilt also measure one half inch.

20131031-075725.jpg
The quilt above appeared on a long ago issue of QUILT magazine at the same time as a quilt made by Ann Hermes. They got our two little quilts mixed up so this was attributed to her and hers to me.

20131031-075945.jpg
Except for the binding, all the fabrics in the fan quilt are vintage.

20131031-080037.jpg

20131031-080055.jpg
The red work blocks were done by machine.
I did get a tiny bit of sewing done this morning.

20131031-080202.jpg
I also made the presentation case before work yesterday. This QOV will get dropped off at the post office on the way out of town.

Stop by again tomorrow for Day 2 of my Small Quilts Parade!

I am linking up with Kelly and My Quilt Infatuation for Needle and Thread Thursday and Pretty Bobbins for I Quilt Linky Party.

Thanks for visiting!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have finally come up with an idea for QOV #19. It started with this:

20131030-173514.jpg</a
I just love those neat little stacks of pieces! They turned into these:

20131030-173615.jpg
Which are turning into this:

20131030-173646.jpg
Now, I need to get packing for my trip tomorrow!

I am linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday.

Back to Square One

So yesterday I had my most recent QOV on the design wall. I had my design figured out and had planned to get the top done and ready for the frame.

20131029-081851.jpg
This plus another two rows of stars across the top was what I had planned. I got all the big parts together but could not commit to sewing it all into one piece. Then I took the top rows and pinned it over the middle.

20131029-082034.jpg
Hmmmm…. This is something I could live with. I think the different blues in the center and outside stars just bothered me too much. I did end up finishing a top, just not the one I planned or needed!

20131029-082235.jpg

20131029-082246.jpg
You see, I am making QOVs for brothers who both served in the Army. I wanted to use the center panel of this star in each quilt.

20131029-082400.jpg
Finding fabrics that match this panel has been much harder than anticipated. So I like the top I finished very much but it hadn’t gotten me any closer to having these two specific quilts done.

I think I will go back to the medallion idea. Here is where I am so far.

20131029-082625.jpg
I did buy more fabric that seemed to match better. I need to have these done by early December but there are other things I want to sew by then as well.

I am glad I didn’t forge ahead and sew the big bits together. I would have hated it. I guess the moral here is that you just have to trust your gut sometimes. At the very least, take the time to examine why you are reluctant to move forward with something.
Happy Tuesday!

BTW, I am linking up with Connie at Free Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday.

Goals

Last week I decided to make a list of projects I wanted to accomplish for the week. This is how I did:

1. Finish the sailor hat.  Finished and mailed!

20131021-004002.jpg
2. Label, make presentation cases, and ship two QOVs.  Done and arrived at their destination!

20130926-075135.jpg

20131008-081750.jpg
3. Finish current QOV top. Done!

20131025-130016.jpg
4. Quilt current QOV top. Done!
5. Quilt and bind my Faithful quilt from the Humble Quilts QAL. Done!

20131021-004251.jpg

I have a very short week in which to sew but I am going to make another list and see what I can do!

1. Label, make presentation case, and ship QOV to Michigan Coordinator.

2. Finish one QOV top, prepare backing,  and load it for quilting.

3. Cut more hexies for Scrapppy Hexie project. I want to cut pieces for another project at the same time so I have to figure out what that other project will be first.

4. Pack for trip. Leaving Thursday!

5. Knit two booties to match the two I have already done.

6. If I have time, finish a second QOV top.

I also have Life Group for church and the day job. I would also like to make some food for hubby for while I am gone.

I predict this week will fly by!

Design Wall Monday

After way too much indecision, I finally started working in the setting for this QOV.

20131027-232451.jpg
I got the rest of my pieces for the top cut also.

20131027-232527.jpg

I also got a couple bibs and burp cloths made for the new grand babies.

20131027-232631.jpg
The one on the right is for my new grandson who is due on Valentines Day. The one on the left is for my new grand baby due to Daughter #1 and dear SIL in June! I can’t believe I get two in one year!

The other night, I cut some of my Denyse Schmidt stash into hexies with my studio cutter.

20131027-232940.jpg
Don’t they look beautiful all stacked up?

20131027-233024.jpg
Even the trimmings are beautiful!

20131027-233109.jpg
I am heading home to Wisconsin later this week to visit my folks. So much to do before I go!

I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Time for Design Wall Monday.

Sunday Stitches

Just a little bit of stitching to show you today. First, a start on my next QOV.

20131027-102340.jpg
And starting to think about some baby projects.

20131027-102534.jpg

20131027-102524.jpg
I found this pattern online and the quote I found on Pinterest. I still need to add the snap or Velcro closure. Bibs are the perfect thing for machine embroidery! I also found a pattern for flannel burp cloths. I hope to try that out later today.

Church for us doesn’t start until 11 AM so that gives me a few minutes in the morning to stitch a bit.

I love this tree on my backyard!

20131027-102910.jpg

20131027-102942.jpg
I probably better do something about this today too:

20131027-103031.jpg
Yikes!

Have a great day everyone!
