I Spy Progress

I’m really enjoying this! My blocks are done. They are very quick to make.

And it’s starting to take shape.

I don’t like that I have the same fabrics so close, but I’m not ripping anything. It was bound to happen.

Have a great day!

I Spy

Slowly making progress on this.

There are plenty of repeated fabrics, but I don’t mind.

Here are some new blocks to go with. Can you see where I’m headed here?

Have a great day!

Something New!

I’ve had these pieces leftover from I Spy quilts for a long time. I decided to bring them with me this summer.

While the mister was helping his sister with some things, I had some time to sew.

Here is my first block.

So fun! This is a great RV project because there isn’t really anything to match up ahead of time. I’m making a block at a time, so I don’t need a design wall. Just grab and sew.

Have a great day!

Finding Laura in De Smet, SD

I read the Little House books for the first time way back in second grade. I’ve read them countless times since then. So visiting De Smet was a bucket list item for me. I was not disappointed!

This is the desk where Laura wrote her books.

Her sewing kit.

Her daughter, Rose, was an accomplished seamstress as well as an author.

This is the surveyors house from By the Shores of Silver Lake.

Our tour guide was excellent.

This is the attic where Mary and Laura slept.

And Ma and Pa’s room.

This is the last Ingall’s home. Pa built it after Laura was married.

There were some lovely quilts there.

This covered wagon is similar to what the Ingall’s likely used. It was so much smaller than I expected.

I bought this book and am greatly enjoying it!

Have a great day!

South Dakota!

I had never been to SD before this trip. There is so much to see! We got stopped by construction and Gracie decided to help Mister Wonderful. She’s a great traveler.

We stopped to see the corn palace.

Found some quilty inspiration inside!

They use 12 different colors of corn, all sourced from the same local farmer. The designs are redone every year in the fall.

It was corny, but we enjoyed it. 😁

Not Finished Friday

Sewing time has been hard to find, but I got a day and set up at the dinette.

I finished all 42 blocks!

And I tried to lay them out on my bed. It was too windy outside.

Sorry for the terrible photo. What I learned from this, is that I need my design wall. Rather than make something I’m not happy with, I’ll wait until we get back to AZ to finish this project. Maybe I’ll even make a few more blocks then.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Rainbow Quilt

Posted on May 22, 2020 by katyquilts

This was such a quick quilt, but it doesn’t look like a quick quilt.

I love a good rainbow quilt! I kept the quilting simple. The backing is from a duvet cover from Pottery Barn that I picked up, still new in the package, at a garage sale.

I have been scouting out new places to take photos of finished quilts. I went to our local university. This sculpture was done by Marshall Fredericks. I love it!

This photo shows the colors most accurately.

Have a great day!

Quilt Museum Part 1

Mister Wonderful and I visited the Quilt Museum in Hamilton, Missouri when we went to Missouri Star.

It was wonderful! I took a lot of photos, so I’ll share in several posts. Look at these feed sacks with the labels still attached!

The quilting on this next quilt was unbelievable.

Have a great day!

JRC

I’ve managed to make a few blocks. They are very easy and stitch up quickly.

I’m not sure how I will set them yet.

But I have time to figure that out. 30 blocks to go.

Have a great day!
