This and That

I certainly didn’t need another sewing machine, but when I found this one for $50, I couldn’t resist! My friend, Zenia, has one just like it that she loves. Now I know why! It reminds me a lot of my Juki.

Speaking of Zenia, she knew I needed another thread stand and surprised me with one! She also sent along this fantastic fabric. She’s the best!

We’ve been enjoying fires in the backyard. The other night, Daughter #2 and her fiancé made fried chicken for us. It was amazing!

My sister has the decorating touch. While she was here visiting, she helped with a few projects. Here is a before.

And after! She also styled my shelves for me. I’m not good at that.

We also painted the breakfast bar.

I got this fun game for my birthday. 😁

I saw this huge drum in Carefree. My sister and I sent a day there. I loved it!

There is a botanical garden in the center of town that is lovely. They have many specimens of crested cactus, like the one below.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Utility Quilt

This was a fun little experiment. It continued with the binding. I attached it by machine to the back.

And then folded to the front and used big stitches to stitch it down to the front.

Ta daaa!

I used a muslin that I knew would shrink a lot for the backing.

I love how the quilting turned out.

I washed it when it was finished. The rest of these photos show it after washing.

It is so soft.

I’m not sure what I will use this for, quite possibly it will go into the dog crate. But I’ve learned loads with this piece and had fun doing it.

Have a great day!

30s Bricks

I started this project two years ago. It’s about time I got back to it!

I was procrastinating on the layout. I cleaned off my design wall and placed blocks so I could see how long and wide it would be. I also sewed a bunch of the pieces into blocks of four strips, all the same color. This meant I wasn’t placing each individual strip on the board.

Time to start working at the wall.

This took forever.

They are finally all on the wall, but I’ve got a some tweaking to do.

Winslow agrees.

Have a great day!

A Quandary

I saved a photo of an antique crib quilt on Pinterest some time ago. when I was back in Michigan, I decided to cut pieces for it.

Since I had no idea what size the pieces were in the original, I decided to make mine with 2” finished HSTs.

I also changed my mind on the placement of the HSTs.

I threw it up on the design wall with the borders I had cut.

Eh…..not thrilled. I might like it better with wider borders. It has lost the naïveté of the original. Now I have to figure out where to go from here.

Have a great day!

And second is my Purple Pansy Basket quilt!

Both of these patterns are available for free on the AccuQuilt website.

Getting Back Into the Sewing Room

It’s been a busy few weeks, but I’m finally getting back to the sewing room. I eased back into things by cutting up the rest of my alternate squares for my leader/ender project.

Then I made some HSTs.

I bought a bag of fabric at Good Will and this was in the mix. I think it’s for placemats. I think I’ll finish them for a gift.

I also played around on EQ a bit.

I schedule blog posts in advance when I know I’m going to be busy, so it looks like I’ve been sewing away. I really haven’t, and it can take me a while to get back into things.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know that there is still time to register for this!

I may have one or two projects in the trunk show at the end. 😊

Also, Connecting Threads is celebrating National Quilt Week with 20% off everything! Use the code shown below.

Have a great day!

Vintage Block Challenge

Lori from Humble Quilts issued a vintage block challenge last fall. The idea is to take one vintage quilt block and finish it into something. I pulled these four from my collection.

Here’s a closer look at each one.

I have no idea where to go with this, but narrowing my options helps.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about this fantastic sale at AccuQuilt .

The deal ends at midnight Central Time. Happy shopping!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Ladies Aid BOM

I finally got back to these blocks. The last pattern was released the end of February. Here are the last of the blocks.

I tried to adjust the bird on this block so it looked less like a duck. Someone suggested adding a birdbath and that filled in nicely.

The pattern for this next block has a cat in the middle. That wasn’t going to work for me, so I finally settled on this Star flower.

Another bird block. I don’t love this, but it’s done for now.

I love this dog block! But I simplified it a lot. My printer is acting up and this was the best I can do.

Here are all 12 blocks.

I’d really like to finish this year, but putting this together will wait until I get back to Michigan.

Have a great day!
