This project has been staring me in the face for months.
I finally got started sorting. 12 of 40 drawers are done.
It isn’t as neat as I would like, but did I mention I have 40 drawers like this?
I have had several piles of fabric that were all from the same line. These have been sorted by color now. I think I will end up with reproduction fabric separate from anything modern also.
I moved all my precuts to this cabinet.
I do have a discard pile as well. I have a long way to go, but they say beginning is half done! Wish me luck.
I thought today that I would show you how I hang an art quilt to hang in an art show. For a quilt show, you make a standard hanging sleeves and call it a day. This won’t work for an art show. They expect your piece to hang from a single hook.
I start by making two sleeves for each piece. I cut mine 3 1/4” wide. Fold the ends under a quarter inch and hem.
Then fold in half the long way and stitch a quarter inch seam.
Press these seams open. They are on the outside of the sleeve.
I hand stitch the top edge to the back of the quilt as shown.
I have a small scrap of the wood I use for the hanging bar and I use that to figure out how far down to stitch the bottom of the sleeve.
This is what I used for my hanging loop. It was what I had on hand. I cut a piece, bend it in half, and twisted it.
Then I bent it like this.
And taped it to the wood hanger.
Then slide it in place. Now the quilt can be hung from a single hook.
No, not mine. Fat Quarter Shop is celebrating 20 years in business! And they are giving the gifts to us.
That will only last until midnight Sunday. while you are there, check out today’s flash sales.
I do love Fat Quarter Shop . Their customer service is fantastic. Their products are top quality. Yes, I’m an affiliate. That means I earn a few pennies if you purchase something after clicking through from my blog. It doesn’t change the price you pay, but it does help support the costs of maintaining this blog. I so appreciate each one of you.
Mr. Wonderful and I are enjoying free concerts in the park this summer. They are all tribute bands. Last week we saw the Traveling Milburys. They cover the Traveling Wilburys, which was a group made up of Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, and Bob Dylan.
We had so much fun!
Our strawberry plants have been producing like crazy this summer.
Remember the hat I made for E3? I gave it to him this week. It has been very hot, but he insisted on wearing it to bed.
All three Es had a chance to spend the night this past week and they came for a few additional days as well since mom was working.
I had a whole bunch of green scraps, so I decided they would be the focus of my next leader/ender project.
I used this die.
Here is my pike after cutting.
I’m making 3” finished half square triangles.
I haven’t decided on the layout yet. But there are so many possibilities!
I have no idea how big this will be. The background triangles were all cut from the same leftover fabric. I’ll probably stop making HSTs when I run out of this.
I picked up this tank top very inexpensively. But I don’t wear tank tops, even a cool one like this.
I also picked up this nice plaid shirt at a thrift shop.
So I used my pinking shears to cut around the design.
And pinned it to the back of the plaid shirt.
I used a straight stitch and black thread to top stitch it down, about a half inch from the edge. I went around it twice. When the shirt is washed, the edges of the appliqué will curl slightly, but it won’t fray.
This was on the back of the tank. I might cut out the small Harley logo and stitch it on the front of the plaid shirt.
Then again, I might use this chunk to make a shirt for Willy.
I think he wants something more manly. 🤣
Obviously, this idea will work for pretty much any shirt with a cool logo. Let me know if you try it!
