This and That

I’ve been digging through old quilts and came across this one. I should try to get better pics to show the quilting.

Mr. Wonderful and I have been riding every chance we get. We happened upon this old fast station last weekend. I totally understand my dad’s obsession with his motorcycle now.

E2 never fails to make me laugh. He’s a Nana’s boy and saved me a seat next to him at the restaurant last week.

E3 and I made pudding together. Kids love using these egg beater/ mixers. My kids loved it when they were little.

And this little green dishes? My mom made pudding and jello in them when my siblings and I were small.

Winslow loves raspberries. She checks to see if there are any ripe ones every time we go out the back door.

I recently finished this book and quite enjoyed it. You may as well.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday

It’s done! And I love it every bit as much as I thought I would.

I used a favorite print that I’ve been hoarding for the back.

Isn’t this awesome? I’ve had it for ages.

I had almost enough of that black and white binding left. I found a strip that nearly matched to finish it off.

Love that texture!

And I love it on my chest.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

I made this quilt back in 2017 for Daughter #3 and SIL. I called it, Home is Where Your Story Begins. There is no pattern available for this, it was just puzzled together.

I used a lot of Tim Holtz fabric and the background is Grunge, I’m not sure what the color was.

Aren’t they cute? This was taken at their wedding shower.

I’m thinking about making an Arizona version. It seems like it would be much easier!

I have plenty of fabric leftover from the Michigan quilt, but maybe I should collect southwest fabrics for an Arizona quilt. I’ll need to think on this.

Have a great day!

Another Piece for the Show

My local solo show is coming up soon. As I was busy finishing hanging sleeves, I decided to make one more piece.

Eh…..not so much.

But sometimes, you just have to start moving things around in order for inspiration to hit.

I top stitched all the bias tape down (thanks, Anne!).

Then I cut circles with my die cutter.

I made tiny yo-yos.

Now I’m stitching them down.

This method makes the circles appear stuffed.

Stay tuned….

Have a great day!

Gifted Blocks

A friend gave me this big pile of postage stamp blocks last fall.

She had pieced them over a number of years on different machines and they didn’t all end up the same size.

I’ve been debating how to set them ever since. I have had the following quilt pinned for ages and I suddenly decided I might be able to kill two birds with one stone.

I think this has potential. Although, I’m not satisfied with the setting fabric.

I’ll keep looking. Have a great day!

Scrap Busting and Free Patterns

First….free patterns. I wanted to let you know that I have added a page to the blog showing the free patterns I’ve written for AccuQuilt . You can see the tab just below the header. If you receive the blog via email, you may have to come directly to the site to access them.

I’ve had this bin of vintage scraps hanging around for many years. I’ve made quite a few quilts from this pile over the years, and I have an idea for another one. I decided that it was time to find the bottom of this bin while I was at it.

I decided to cut using these two dies for my AccuQuilt Studio Cutter.

Here are all the diamonds that I cut. There are 176 in that pile.

I didn’t count all the 2” squares.

My process is pretty simple. I press my scraps and lay them on the die and run it through the die cutter. I separate pieces still big enough to cut, like the tiny gingham print on the right. The rest gets swept into the trash can.

It took a long time, but without my die cutter, I would have dumped the whole box into the trash. After a few hours, I had an empty bin. AccuQuilt for the win!

Ummmm…..except for these solid scraps that I pulled out as I went.

I’m not sure what I want to do with these yet, but I did press and sort into piles of large, medium, and small pieces.

Now once I decide what shapes I want to cut, it should go pretty quickly.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

The mister and I went out for lunch after church last Sunday and then for a nice long bike ride. So I didn’t get far on this. I do now have the Star basted in place.

I learned about back basted appliqué from a tutorial by Jeanna Kimball. I’m not great at it, but this seems to work best for me.

I also added one more row to this project. Someday it will be done.

I’m getting the itch for a big hand quilting project, but I won’t let myself start until this is done.

Have a great day!

This and That

I’m making slow, but sure progress on these blocks.

This little man had a great time making emojis out of fun foam with my new die!

He also enjoyed making a quilt cave!

These two got haircuts.

They weren’t thrilled, but they look better!

Finally, a book recommendation. I’ve enjoyed every Kate Morton book I’ve read. And this was no exception.

That’s all for now. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ A Twofer and a Bonus

I have one finish and one almost finish today. First of all, the Roblox top is done.

My machine appliqué work leaves a lot to be desired. I’ll spare you a closeup. This will be going to Big L out in AZ, so I’ve decided to wait and quilt it out there. I’m quite happy to set it aside for a bit!

My little doll quilt is a real finish. I put way too much time into this, but I enjoyed working on it.

It’s pretty simple. It finished at about 12 by 18 inches.

I grabbed a piece of something old for the back.

And you can probably tell better from the photo above, but I did add more quilting around the prints.

I found a bit of leftover binding and decided stitching it down like this was fitting.

This is what I used for the quilting. The color is more accurate in the photos above. It is a bright turquoise.

I’m quite pleased with this little piece! Now to find a home for it.

Now for the bonus. My friend Kelly made this sweet little quilt.

Looks like I’ll be cutting some more pieces just like the leftovers I used up to make another! Isn’t this fantastic?

Have a great day!
