Mr. Wonderful

I’m really not sure where to begin with this post. I’m feeling very sentimental today.

This is Mr. Wonderful. He has been my best friend for nearly forty years and my husband for over 37 years. Together we have raised a family of four wonderful children, and welcomed five beautiful grandsons.

Today is his last day of work.

He is retiring after a long career in the automotive industry. His career has taken him all over the world. It even moved our family to France for a few years. He has patents to his name. He has received awards and recognition.

But his greatest accomplishments, will be the many lives he has touched, the people he has mentored. The notes written to him, the retirement party, the kind words spoken to me about him, all testify to the great love he has for people. I am so very proud of him.

It is very gratifying to know that others see in him what I have always known. That he is strong, creative, able. But he is also kind, with the most beautiful heart, always looking to support and bring out the best in other people.

We are not entirely sure what the path ahead looks like, but we plan to keep walking it with Jesus, and He knows the way.

Just for fun, here is a silly photo of us. We bought outfits and dressed up to take this photo for our kids. Is this what retirement looks like? 😂

Thanks for indulging me. I love him. ❤️

Katy and Mr. Wonderful, let God guide you and you’ll always be right where you need to be. My husband of 43 years just retired five months ago and we travel, spend days at home, but no matter what we do, we just love being together. I wish you many happy years of adventures!

Beautifully said, Katy! Congratulations to Mr. Wonderful AND you on his long, successful career. You both look far too young to be “retired” but that just means you’ll have wonderful decades ahead of you to do as you please. You must be so excited. I’m VERY happy for you.

So exciting – I hope he has his other interests queued up and ready to go. A new chapter in life. I will be retiring next year.

Congratulations to your husband!! He has been faithful to his Heavenly Father and his wife and family. He still has plenty of opportunities to work. There are so many hurting, lonely, broken people that hunger to hear the truth of the Gospel and it sounds like he would be perfect for that job!!

You can and should be proud of him and remember that you are part of the reason he is who he is. Keep being strong for each other and retirement will be great! Now is the time to pursue the things he didn’t have time for during a regular work schedule. It is an adjustment but enjoy this new way of life continuing to serve God.
PS we still need to do lunch some day. I haven’t forgotten.
