You’ve heard all week about my current project. Trying to read a pattern, not paying enough attention, too much on my mind, getting bored to tears with it…..

Finally got the blocks together and added scrappy borders to the top and bottom yesterday morning. At 72″ square, it was too big for a lap quilt and too small for a bed. I wanted it bigger so I could give it to the local women’s shelter. I decided to use poly batting since I have a big roll on hand and it is easy care for the recipient.

Gosh, this batting feels thick! I am no expert on poly batting being a cotton girl myself. My las roll was too thin and when I ordered this, I wanted something with a bit more loft.
But not this much.

Good grief, this is not a quilt, it is a comforter! Ugh.
Love the panto I chose but it is too tight for this batt and it doesn’t show anyway.

I had some tension headaches that required ripping and restitching.
I hate this batting. Did I mention that I have a huge roll of it?!?
I waited until all the quilting was done and then ripped and requilted using a big magnet to hold the quilt tight on the frame.

Oh and did I mention that this happened halfway through?

It is off the frame now and trimmed. I will use this for binding and the hand stitching will be my slow stitching this evening.

I hope it is relaxing and not disastrous in any way….not holding my breath.
Linking up with Kathy for Slow Stitching Sunday.

The quilting shows up nicely with your fluffy bat. I worked on binding yesterday too
Actually, the poly batt look good. I’m sorry about all the trouble you’ve had with it. Someone will be very pleased with it so don’t worry about it. Also, if that is truly a fat batt or bigger than you like it would work great for tied quilts. And some group would love to have the batting to use for something like that if you are ready to jettison it! Your quilting is gorgeous. Please tell me you have a computerized long arm. It’ll make my pitiful attempts be ok since mine are hand guided and not that smooth. Although I am getting better.
I love the puffiness of that quilt. I am sure the recipient will be very appreciative of all your hard work. The quilt is so pretty.
Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with the quilt. I am sure it will be more relaxing to put the binding on.
Happy Stitching
Really it’s very pretty with the puffy look. Someone is going to love it. I recognize those fabrics and have a lot of pieces in my stash!
Some people prefer puffy quilts so I’m sure someone will love it with its’ pretty colours. That’s too bad that you have an entire roll of batting you hate. Maybe you can sell it?
Your quilt is beautiful, as well as the quilting!! Well it looks great .Will make a very warm quilt for someone a cold night! Sorry about the batting, I’m sure you will use it all up in no time for more wonderful donation quilts!!
Your quilting is lovely. Maybe it will grow on you once you’ve given it some time.
The hand stitching will be WAY more relaxing and happy… and soon you will have a finish!
I like the definition the poly is giving the quilt. I used to use cotton a lot but the quilt would turn out so flat. I also like the way wool and poly quilts dry much faster in the dryer. Your machine quilting is beautiful and really brought this quilt alive.
It is such a happy quilt, I can’t imagine that it gave you so many problems! 😉 For me, once a project starts going sideways. . . it just keeps going! haha Sorry about the batting. . . an entire roll… ugh! I do have to say though, I think the quilt looks great with the loft!
Whoever receives this quilt is going to love it. I’m sorry you had issues….use that poly batting up and don’t replace it. 😉 k
Next!
What is name of the panto? I love the look.
You’re waaaaaay to hard on yourself, Katy. The quilt is quite lovely and the recipient will be more than delighted to receive it. I’m just sorry you’re stuck with a batting you don’t like. I’m sure you’ll use it up in no time on other donation quilts.
Ugh, I hate it when a quilt gives nothing but one headache after another. Hope the binding will go more smoothly. At least it’s a pretty quilt!
