Mr. Wonderful and I are visiting his parents this week. It is so good to see them! Last night, Mama Mim shared some treasures sent to her by her brother including this diary that had belonged to her mother.

What a fun read! This is one of my favorite entries:

So many entries mention quilting.

And she was a master at every form of needlework, but quilting was clearly her favorite. Here is an early photo of her.

She helped me quilt my second quilt. I had basted it and bought an extra hoop to hand quilt it. She worked on one end and I worked at the other. It was the first time for her to quilt in a hoop and she let me know this was some newfangled system! She also told me my size 7 needles were like quilting with nails. But she never mentioned how ugly that quilt was nor how poorly pieced. I used her quilt frame for many, many quilts until I switched to machine quilting. Here is one of her later quilts:

I loved Grandma S and wish I could sit down and chat with her today.
At least I can read her diary.

Hello Katy,
That is a really beautiful quilt, and such a sweet diary. How lovely to have such good memories and wonderful keepsakes from a grandmother.
I named my blog after my great great grandmother, born in the 1830s, who was the daughter of a tailor and mother and grandmother of tailoresses. I was thrilled to find all that sewing in the family tree, so far back that we didn’t know about it.
Love from England, Muv
What a treasure!
How lovely to have such a treasured keepsake – thank you for sharing some of the quilty entries and the quilt you showed is beautiful.
Pauline
what a treasure that diary is. I’m on year 4 of a 5 year diary. It’s the first I’ve ever stuck with.
How wonderful to get this kind link with past family! Thank you for sharing it with us. The quilt is beautiful. Hugs,
That so reminds me of my Grandmother. She quilted people’s quilts on her large frame setup in her living room and we would play under it. She taught me how to quilt and I often think how amazed she would be with all of our new fangled tools and wonder if she would have adapted to the new ways. Such wonderful memories!
What a treasure to have the diary and a quilt! My grandmother kept a diary, but they were lost after she was gone. I would love to have one.
what a lovely quilt on that bed.
How FABULOUS!! I’m the family historian and passionate about genealogy. How I would LOVE to have something like this from grandma or great grandma! Your MIL’s handwriting looks a great deal like Grandma’s.
You have such a touching story here today. Thank you for sharing it. You are most certainly right where you belong.
