Finish it up Friday

Remember the quilt my friend asked me to quilt? I finished it on Monday after she left. I have taken it back to her so now I can show you the whole thing.

I love how it turned out and it will look even better bound and washed!

This was my very first “customer” quilt and I am very happy with it! My friend did a lovely job piecing it!

In other news, I took the borders off the hexie quilt. I appreciate all the comments. After much consideration, I decided it wasn’t that bad but it competed too much with the center. I wanted the hexies to be the first thing you noticed. Rather than rip stitches, I just cut the borders off and then trimmed the seams from the borders so they were ready for another project.

There is some fabric waste but it’s better than spending a few hours with my seam ripper. Here are the two options I considered for the new borders.

Much better than this:

Now onto quilting but that won’t be finished until I clean some carpets.

Your friends quilt is fun and your quilting on it is great. I like the darker blue border, but the green grabs my eye too! That’s the fun of quilting, each choice gives a different look!

I too like the dark blue that reads as solid yet adds interest by being a calm print. I like it as stand alone border. The medium one is still too busy for the hexies to be the star of the show.

For my two cents–I like the dark blue but how about a narrow solid color border between the hexies and the dark border. It might pull everything together. Love your friends quilt.

I love the way this pattern looks with retro fabrics….pinned. Thank you for sharing.

I *love* your friends quilt. You did a great job on it. Sorry to say, I have to agree with Lynn. I still prefer the green border you removed.Cutting it off rather than spending all that precious time “un-sewing” it was an excellent decision.

  6. Kathy says:

My two cents worth? I think the lighter blue is just a little busy but complements the quilt as a whole better than the darker blue.

What a lovely job of quilting on your friend’s quilt … it’s so adorable!

Hi, this is Gwen you gave me a patter for a qov using the chisle for a star…… I like the darker blue as it reads a a solid but the color of the background only of the lighter bule is very pretty I think the lighter blue compliments the white but the print of the lighter blue is busy . Just my opion.

The quilting looks great on your friend’s quilt. Personally I quite liked the green border as I think it ‘brightens’ the centre. The navy seems to flatten the colours. Maybe a smaller print? Hexagons look great.

I like the blue, but you still may have a little competition going on with it. I would audition more of a medium value to see how you like it before you sew. I love looking at all your DS inspiration. I have quite a selection of prints also.
