I felt so productive yesterday morning. I got some housework done and the borders on my DS hexie quilt. Last night, I decided I need to take those borders off.

Love this fabric, not so much as a border for this quilt.

Way too bright and overpowering. Sigh…..
I was so hoping to start quilting it this afternoon. Instead I will be removing this border and putting on something else. I have the backing and batting loaded on the frame. Maybe that will motivate me to forge ahead.
Linking up with Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation for Needle and Thread Thursday.

I like the border – makes all the greens in the quilt pop, but if you don’t like it….. I invite you to link up to Hexie Weekend – a great hexie quilt.
I’ve found that some quilts are just difficult to frame with a border. I did a similar pattern years ago and I used solids for the borders. I don’t know how it would work for this. Then again, I think life is too short to rip out piecing or quilting.
I love the border! It picks up the greens in the hexes. Hugs,
I like the border, but if you don’t, why not just leave it without one, or with only a white border? That way your hexies will shine. Beautiful work.
I’m with Lois…I liked the floral border….but it’s your quilt & your happiness, so make it the right border for YOU! Good luck; will be excited to see what you come up with!
I’m in the minority, I guess. I really like the border fabric with the hexies. haha
I have to agree … something a little less overpowering would be more suitable, I’m thinking … something that complements rather than competes with those delightful hexagons. Sorry for the extra work, but I’m sure you’ll be pleased that you made the change. Good luck!
Katy, your hexie quilt looks amazing!! I love the border fabric but i agree it is a tad too ‘loud’ and overpowering. I think a plain fabric, maybe a darkish blue or grey, with a small print would work really well… it wouldn’t detract from the bright, colourful & scrappy hexagons. cheers, Marian
