I made a little progress on my small 4 patch quilt last night. I am making this out of vintage fabrics so that makes fabric selection a little bit harder. I found enough of a vintage double pink to cut for setting squares.

And I thought this homespun would work for the setting triangles.

Turns out there isn’t quite enough contrast. Then I found just enough of this claret red.

Maybe I’ll still use the homespun in the corners.

While rummaging through my vintage scraps, I came across this block again.

At one time, the appliqué was probably all one shade of green. This has been top stitched down by machine. A radical move at the time this block was made! It is not even close to being actually square. I love the wonkiness and daring of this block. I would love to finish it somehow. It is quite large, nearly 17″ square.

love your little quilt and great applique
very cute mini quilt! The fabrics are wonderful and your wonky block is delightful!
Your little quilt is very sweet, but that handsome new grandson is even sweeter! Congrats!
Love the project on your design wall, Katy!
I found another yardstick today and already have it hung and full of little quilts. Now that I have the hall full I will be looking for more for the sewing room! : )
Yes it iS awesome! 🙂 I like that nine patch variation pattern and your colors..very pretty! 🙂
Love your little quilt so far, and it’s always exciting for me to see a quilter working with antique fabric. The appliqué block is amazing, and Nicole’s right — it would make a beautiful center for a medallion quilt.
The wonky block should be the centre of a medallion quilt! Or send it to me – I love it.
It IS awesome! I agree with Kathy. I like how the colors are morphed on the wonky block. It’s very cute! I have to wonder what you’ll end up doing with it. At first glance, the small four patch reminds me of a man’s print shirt and blue tie.
I like how the green fabric has morphed into green and blue … looks intentional! And I like the homespun for the corners … great fabric choices.
