Vintage Quilt Top

Thank you all for the well wishes regarding our flood mess. We are making progress, slowly but surely. I thought I would share with you today another find from the estate sale that Daughter #1 and I attended a couple weeks ago. I think this vintage top is very unique!

The same shirting fabric is used throughout.

Two different claret reds are used.

Don’t you just love those 6 pointed stars?

When I purchased this top, it had been basted for hand quilting with a burgundy solid fabric for the back and a thick POLYESTER batting! Yikes! I had to rescue this top before someone tried to quilt it with that awful stuff! It deserves to be hand quilted and that won’t happen by my hand. But it should never be stuck with poly, that’s just wrong.

Hope you enjoyed my vintage treasure. Linking up with Connie at Free Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday.

I agree, its a beautiful top, and deserving of hand quilting. Hopefully this does not come off as contrary, but I’m wondering why you are opposed to poly batting? Is it for “purist” reasons, do you think it would diminish the value of the quilt? Or do you fear the poly might wear through the fabric? What about cotton/poly blends? I’ve never owned or quilted a vintage top such as yours, but have used poly batting in some of my own quilts, as its like butter to hand quilt through, washes up nice and doesn’t crease. So far so good, but would love to hear more of your experience and/or knowledge on the subject. I am never beyond learning something new!
