Work in progress Wednesday

I have a couple works in progress right now. First, the quilting on my shirtings quilt.

I also started working on this months SQT challenge. By the way, SQT stands for the Small Quilt Talk group on Yahoo. I amusing vintage fabrics. The blocks will finish at 4 inches.

While pulling fabric for this, I found some tiny half square triangles I had saved. How small is too small?

These measure about 3/4 of an inch unfinished!

Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday.

Haha! Too funny! I did end up using them this morning. Check back later this week to see what became of them. And if I find any more, I will keep you in mind!

    Thanks for stopping by, Katy

What a great idea! I actually starting working with them this morning using a tiny 1/8″ seam allowance. Check back later this week to see what I came up with!

    Thanks for stopping by, Katy

I’m trying to resist the temptation to say, Send them my way instead of to the trash can, if that is the way you decide to go. But my fingers won’t stop typing…LOL

  6. I forgot to say, feather stitch by machine!

  7. Before you pitch your triangle squares, try this: cut the dog ears of your triangle squares. Lightly spray (basting spray) a piece of very thin batting or flannel, or the back side of a backing fabric. Lay your triangle squares on top in the pattern you like. Now do a small feather stitch in the “seams”. No piecing or even quilting required. True its raw edge, but you’ll probably never have to wash it, and it makes a darling little doll quilt. Bind with a single thickness.

I love your shirtings quilt. They look like they come from real shirts?

Love your shirtings quilt! I have a bunch of homespuns, and am inspired to use them that way.

  9. katyquilts says:

True! Percentage wise, I am losing more than I am gaining if I piece these!I may try piecing these but likely they will get pitched. I don’t think I can piece these accurately enough to NOT drive me nuts! Thanks for the comments on the shirting quilt.

    Have a great day! Katy

  10. 3/4″ ? Wow! Tiny but cute!

  11. knitnkwilt says:

3/4 inch HST is the smallest I save. The smaller you go the higher percentage of fabric gets lost in the seam allowance! But otherwise they would be lost all together. πŸ™‚ I really like your shirting quilt. The swirl quilting is a wonderful contrast to the lines of the piecing and the stripes.

  12. Deb L. says:

Love your ‘shirtings’ quilt and really like how you’re quilting it! Is that ‘ruler work’ I see in some of those plaid/lined squares? If you happen to run out of those tiny half-square triangles, I’ve got a box-full under my sewing cabinet just begging me to take them out and ‘play’ πŸ˜‰
    Happy Quilting!
