Would you rescue this quilt?

Monday I went to a fun antique shop with Daughter #1. We spot toed this lovely old quilt.

I think the pattern is called Chips and Whetstones. It was simply hand quilted in a double diagonal pattern. The condition was rough! There were holes all the way through in places. At $25, it was ver tempting to bring it home.

Would you have?

That is exactly my problem, no space to store this! I have rescued a couple of dubious condition in the last year but I cannot become a storer of things!

    Take care, Katy

  2. Tough question – I jst adore those colors. But I don’t really have any space to store more quilts. Maybe I could cut up the best block and make it into a pillow cover? Then maybe I would…. oh seriously – that is a tough question!

  3. I would have caved immediately! I love old quilts 🙂

Holes all the way through? I would walk away.

Yes, just seems like for all of the work a lady long ago put into the quilt it should rest its days with someone who loves quilts. Kathy

Yes I would have. Would make an offer, but bought it any way!

  7. Yes. I would have rescued. Popular colors and a difficult block. I would try to talk them down $5, if not I would have had a hard time walking away. Makes a nice display quilt.

  8. Diane says:

Probably not…..until it got down to $10 and I had some plan for it in a new cut-down form!

  9. Lois says:

Personally, I would have to pass on it. I just don’t have the room.

  10. Definitely… IF…. you love the quilt, and you have the capacity to store and care for it. Or better yet, display it! However if you would be buying it for its monetary value, maybe not such a good idea.

Several years ago I found a beautiful old quilt in absolute tatters, it was literally “trash” on someone’s floor. I brought it home and washed it, and it now covers my sewing table. I’ve washed it a couple times since, but mostly take it out and give it a good shake from time to time. I love it!

The only thing that would have restrained me is that I have no space to store collected quilts.
