I finished quilting the Farmer’s Wife quilt yesterday. I think the farmer’s wife had PMS. The quilting did NOT turn out like I wanted. I used a new thread so I had to fiddle with tension, I quilted a wrinkle into the batting, my feathers are organic (code for unruly and too fat). I am just not happy with the quilting job I did. It looks much better in pictures than in person. Here are some in process shots.

The quilting is finished and it is off the frame. I hope to get the binding on before work today.

In other news, no school again here today. The roof of our local K-Mart collapsed due to the snow. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Here is the view out my back door.

Someone is trying to stay warm in the subzero temps.

A magnificent quilt!!! Love the colours and the design.
I think your quilting looks spectacular! I can’t wait to see the entire quilt when it’s finished. Hope you’re starting to warm up there.
I think your quilt is quite lovely! I like the fat feathers!
Oh it’s wonderful! Come back to it in a few days and see if you like it better. I sure hope so cuz it looks fantastic.
If I could quilt as well as you, I’d be doing a happy dance all over the house. I think it looks grand. Not the back yard though. I am so sorry. And so thankful we do not have that extreme cold and snow.
I don’t know anything about longarm quilting (and have not attempted fmq yet either) but I like how that brown border has all those squiggly lines as part of the print. Could you have followed those lines to do the quilting in the border? I had a piece of fabric with some squiggles that I used on the back of a mug rug and I hand quilted that side along some of the lines. Came out pretty good. The best thing is my daughter loved it!
I think your quilting is beautiful! I really like the word “organic”……I recently finished a wall hanging with feathers that were definitely “organic”! Thanks for sharing.

It looks lovely Katy. I, like you, am my own worst critic. Nice work!
I think your feathers look good, but I know what you mean. “Fat fingers” I call them, when I can’t seem to make a slim, graceful feather. I have a quilt to load today. The top is quite busy so I can’t decide whether to quilt very simply (and I SHOULD!) or do something a little fancier that won’t even be seen. 🙂
Stay warm and stay safe.
The farmer’s wife had PMS – too funny. The quilting looks good. Sometimes we are our worse enemies. Maybe you will be more pleased when the binding is attached. It’s a very pretty quilt!
