Bonus round Yahtzee!

I was looking through Craigslist and found that someone listed a quilt top for $15. The pictures were very blurry. Here is part of the ad:20130804-200637.jpg
I figured it would be a good top to practice machine  quilting anyway so I contacted the seller and made arrangements to buy it. I was thrilled to find it was a 1930’s Grandmother’s Flower Garden!20130804-200819.jpg
The fabrics are delightful!20130804-200853.jpg20130804-200900.jpg20130804-200908.jpg

Some of the pieces are pieced.

Some of this is machine pieced but most is by hand. Now I have another quandary…should I machine quilt this? If so, how would you quilt it?

Wow did you luck out! I found one like that at a garage sale and when I realized what I had, I went and talked to some folks more experienced with vintage quilts than I am. They told me that to preserve the historical value of the quilt it should be hand quilted. But – in the end, it’s your quilt and you should do whatever you want to do to turn it into a quilt rather than just a flimsy in the closet (or some day at a yard sale!) I’ll be watching to see what you do with this one – it’s a beauty!

Also (because you’re a no-reply blogger) I’ll answer your comment from my blog here! Thanks for the sweet comment, and the fasting diet went well today (my first fast day) – I didn’t get too hungry during the day, and I’m definitely not hungry now as I ate a full plate of stir fried chicken with lots of veggies for supper. And tomorrow I can eat whatever I want!! Now if it just helps me lose weight, I’ll be a happy camper!

  2. What a wonderful find…..and many of the flowers fussy cut too!!!

I have a quilt like this that my husbands grandmother made and it is all hand quilted–1/4″ around each hexagon. It’s really beautiful. You are so lucky to have found this. Will be anxious to see what you do.

Oh boy what a find! Those fabrics are out of this world. There’s a part of me that say you really out to hand quilt this beauty and then the other part with the long arm speaks up and say – whoa what fun you could have with that!! OMGosh! How lucky to have found this and rescued her. I agree, if only she could talk. I love the fussy cuts and the pieced fabric, nothing is wasted. Can’t wait to see how you quilt it.

I don’t know how I would quilt it, but you sure did get a prize!!

Oh my, what a find, obviously the seller didn’t know what she had. So glad you rescued this quilt top. Now if it could only talk and tell you it’s history.
