I have 61 blocks done in the Batik Behemoth quilt. Here are a few on the design wall.

And the rest of the finished blocks so far.

Here is my current work station with block kits laid out in the lower left of the picture.

I am trying to decide if I want to make 121 blocks and go without a border or make 100 blocks and add a 5″ border. I think my MIL prefers a border but that would require more fabric shopping. I also need to purchase fabric for the binding and backing. She said she would prefer a poly batting. Any recommendations? I only use it for service quilts and a low loft at that. She would like a higher loft.
I hope to get the background blocks finished today and figure out where I want the stars placed.
I linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for DWM.

I think it would look great either way, Katy, and I can’t wait to see your final layout. I noticed your vintage machine and cool sewing table and just had to search your blog for further mention of them. I found the blog entry about the table (yay for handy husbands) but I couldn’t find any mention of the vintage Singer you’re sewing on. Is it the only model you have? I’d love to hear about how, when and where you found it, etc.
I love the batiks chosen. I think it would great without a border. 2 things to consider when you put it on the long arm frame–how big is the quilt vs how big is the frame–do you have room for borders. I have been caught on this one. The next is I HATE quilting with polyester and wool. It doesn’t grab the fabrics and I don’t like the results. I love 100 percent cotton batting and I love 70/30 or 80/20 battings which have a higer loft. Batiks act different than cottons for me on my long arm. Just my 2 cents hope it was helpful.
Your batiks are wonderful…love all the pretty colors!
Looking really good so far! it’s going to beautiful!
