In place of regularly scheduled programming….

No sewing too place yesterday due to a migraine. Hate those things! Anyway, wonderful hubby picked up meds from the pharmacy and felt enough better to go to Salvation Army with my girls for a half hour last night. I found a couple of interesting pieces of fabric.

If anyone knows anything about these, I would love to hear about it. They will go in the wash today. Now I am off to work.
Until next time…

These are East African kangas, probably from Kenya or Tanzania. The one with the Swahili proverb is double and would be cut in half. They are used by women for everything, from aprons to carrying babies.

I put the words through Google translator — says it’s Swahili for “Good living relatives pray for us brotherhood tujuwane.” I love finding treasures…..

  3. So sorry about your migraine. Ick! I get them too–no fun, huh? Nice that you ended the day with finding that wonderful fabric!

Try reading here about what I think they are:

There are several sites I found just typing in Dutch block print fabric (one version is called Java, which is what I think yours are, and is the word I couldn’t think of for my first post) where you can look at more examples and, of course, buy them. But the little site I found above gives some basic information about them. It doesn’t, however, seem to show the most intricate patterns.

Just my best guess! They aren’t cheap! Lucky you for finding them.

I cannot think this morning! These are absolutely lovely. Research Dutch block prints and see if anything comes up.
