I spent a little time playing tonight and came up with this:

It measures about 6″ x 10″ and is actually straight. I took the pic with it hanging on my little wire clothesline in my sewing room so it isn’t flat against the wall and wants to twist. I started with a piece of hand dyed fabric and chalked in the tree trunk and moon. Then I machine quilted followed by a bit of Shiva paintsticks on the trunk and moon. Finally I trimmed and finished the edges with a bit of silver acrylic paint. Now I am deciding if I like it enough to frame. It was an experiment. I rather like the tree except for the branch on the left side, way too thick and no idea how to fix it. If I trim it off, the rest of the tree is too far to the left. Hmmmm……. The moon is more golden than I would like but my selection of paintsticks is VERY limited. I went over it with white but it didn’t lighten it much. Any ideas, thoughts, critiques?
Until next time……

your sewing is great. thanks so much for the comment on the old singer on my blog. yeah, i passed on this one. i have a singer spartan that i love. and a new machine as well.
Thanks Janice, Carole, and Patty! I think I will leave this to sit a while and come back to it. I did add more white to the moon but need to get some blue paintsticks to try to blend the offensive branch!
I like this in it’s simplicity. A perfect little sketch tht stands on it’s own.
Katy… this is GREAT.
The ‘limb’ you say is too thick, make it something else….I am thinking of something coming behind the tree toward the right lower corner on the diagonal.. a river? Moon glints on it?
Just a thought, plus I love the silver edge paint you used.
I like it a lot! You could try darkening the limb with more blue to fade it back and not be so noticeable but I think it is fine. Or you could add some hand stitching into the corner of some tall grasses or wildflowers. Use more of the gold of the moon and dark blue. As I said though, I love the piece!
this is great Katie…….you have a knack for these small pieces……adding a lot to such a small space. There’s a lot of meaning in it. I think your idea to do a small piece weekly or whatever is a good one…….stay with it!
